Bob
Schneider
Associate Professor of Chemistry,
served in a variety of positions related to research adminisitration for almost
30 years. His most recent role was as Director of Informatics
and Compliance in the
Office of the Vice President
for Research. He was responsible for the collection, maintenance and dissemination
of information about all aspects of the campus' research activities. His other
responsibilties dealt with compliance in the areas of Human Subjects, Laboratory

research administration.
As of January 2003, Bob returned
to full-time teaching in the Department

Bob has been a faculty
member at the University at Stony Brook since 1960 and in that capacity,
he helps maintain the WWW site
for the Department of Chemistry and teaches Introductory Chemistry Laboratory
for which he also maintains WWW sites.(CHE

Bob is particularly proud
of three graduate students with whom he had the good fortune to collaborate
back in the "good old days":
- Ray
Mackay (Ph.D., 1966), who is now Professor
of Chemistry at Clarkson U.,
Potsdam NY (on leave to serve as Director of Research and Technology
at the Edgewood Chemical
and Biological Center), and who was the first person
to receive a Doctorate from Stony Brook,
- Jim DiLorenzo
(Ph.D., 1967), who is President
of Paratek Microwave Inc., and
- John
Jost (Ph.D., 1971), who is Executive
Director of the International
Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) in Raleigh NC.
Bob was a recipient of
President's and Chancellor's Awards for Excellence in Teaching
in 2001, joining seven
of his colleagues in Chemistry who have earned that distinction.
In addition to his faculty
responsibilities, Bob was a member of the University at Stony Brook's adminstration
between 1973 and 2002, serving as Associate Vice Provost for Research
(1973 - 1991), and for two years, as Acting Vice Provost for Computing and Communications
(1986 - 1988) as well as other positions at various times.
He can be reached by email

The following dispel two
misconceptions about Bob:
This is his family:
- Daughter, Audrey

Carolina State University),
M.B.A. (North
Carolina State University) is a product
manager at Dialog, a Thomson business,
in Cary, NC.
- Son-in-law, Sal
Mungal - B.S., Biology (USB,

Son David
- B.S., Electrical Engineering (USB,

Uniphase Corporation in Melbourne, FL
Daughter-in-law Heather

David
Son Scott
- working at the Internetworking Systems division of Lucent

- Grandson Andrew
- Born Feb 26, 2001. Here is a picture
of Andrew being initiated into the Wednesday

in 1991 which has either created or resolved some of the world's major problems
since 1991.
- Granddaughter

There is also a picture
taken at the beautiful and educational New England
Aquarium during a 1996 trip to Boston to attend a meeting dealing with ERA.
It includes Heather, David, Mitchell, Bob and a friend (Bob is the one on the
left.). A good friend, and former colleague at USB,
Jerry Schubel, Director Emeritus
of NEAQ, was the photographer.
Also, a picture
taken at a recent family reunion in Williamsburg, Va. in 2002, and a picture
as it might have looked a few generations past.
